7/22/14- Haiti Day 2

’m not a morning person.

In fact, if the morning weren’t necessary for the rest of the day to go on I would find some kind of way to ban them or make them illegal or something...

7/21/14- Haiti Day 1

We left Atlanta at around 6:30pm and arrived in Ft. Lauderdale at 9:00pm for our 10-hour layover. We stayed in a hotel until we had to leave for the airport at 4:30am....

7/20/14- Nicaragua Day 15

Four a.m. came early. Real early.

We were all tired and pretty grouchy, so we tried not to talk to each other. It was a pretty quiet morning. A few tears were shed and final goodbyes were said...

7/20/14- Nicaragua Day 14

Today was our last day in Santa Barbara.

Not only was it our last day in the community, but it was also our last day in Nicaragua. We all knew today would be rough. It’s hard to say goodbye to people you’ve come to love so dearly– to a land that holds a piece of your heart...

7/20/14- Nicaragua Day 13

Today we changed things up a bit and went to a children’s hospital.

Last year we had gone to a children’s cancer center but due to the recent earthquakes everyone had been moved to the hospital across the street...

7/20/14- Nicaragua Day 12

Today was our third day in the community of Santa Barbara.

We came to paint the schoolroom we helped build a couple of days before.

We loaded into the truck after breakfast and made our way to the school...

7/1/14- Nicaragua Day 11

oday could be simply summed up by saying we went to church.

And when I say church I don’t mean we entered a building and sang some songs and listened to a sermon (we didn’t even stay for the sermon). When I say church I mean we entered a community committed to worshiping God through all of our strength, all of our knowledge, and all of our hearts...

6/29/14- Nicaragua Day 10

Today was our second day in Santa Barbara.

The day started as it usually does, with breakfast, and then we were off on our way to go love on some people. We were going to help build a new classroom for the school– so we picked up some building material and a couple of Nicaraguan builders to help us...

6/29/14- Nicaragua Day 9

Today was our first day in the community of Santa Barbara.

After breakfast we all loaded up in the back of a pick-up truck and headed down the highway. About three miles later we turned on to a bumpy, winding dirt road, which led to the school in Santa Barbara...

6/28/14- Nicaragua Day 8

We started the day a little earlier than we usually do.

We had breakfast at seven and then began our daily activities– which were different than anything we’ve done before. The girls went to a jewelry making class/Bible study with some of the ladies from the local communities while us guys did some errands around town...

6/27/14- Nicaragua Day 7

oday was our first day back from the mountains. And it was going to be a day full of work.

We started the day with an amazing breakfast– as we always do when we’re at the compound– and then started on our “chores”. The girls did some crafty-girly-stuff while us guys cleaned the truck and gear we took to the mountains. I also got to paint while on top of a sketchy ladder...

6/27/14- Nicaragua Day 6

We made it through the night. We were wet, cold, and miserable but we made it...

6/26/14- Nicaragua Day 5

It rained all night.

And when all you hear is running water for 10 hours straight you really have to go pee… After a night of little sleep (and a lot of pee…and rain), we awoke bright and early to start our day...

6/26/14- Nicaragua Day 4

When a mango falls on a tin roof it makes a very loud noise. In case you didn’t know, a building with a tin roof is basically a big percussion instrument for nature to beat on with rain, sticks, mangos, and everything else that can drop from the sky. Anyways, after a night of little sleep, we got up early and went to church...

6/26/14- Nicaragua Day 3

The day began as it usually does. We woke up, ate breakfast at 8, and began to prepare for the day (in this case, days). After about an hour of trying to get our backpacks, supplies for the trip, and buckets for the water filters on top of the car, we finally managed to get everything to fit. We were all set to begin our long journey to the mountain town of Rio Blanco...

6/21/14- Nicaragua Day 2

Sun’s up, sweat’s pouring, the wind’s blowing, and all is well here in Nicaragua...

6/20/14- Nicaragua Day 1: Part B

I can’t tell you how long I’ve longed to feel a warm Nicaraguan breeze on my face again (Well, actually It’s been about a year). It’s hard to say just how much my heart has missed this place and the people who inhabit it...

6/20/14- Nicaragua Day 1: Part A

I’m a last minute packer. So naturally I found myself shoving everything I could find into my suitcase just two hours before I had to leave. Oh and in case you didn’t know, I was packing for two weeks in a third-world country– including a hike through the jungle...
